Doug Lefton, MD, a family physical based in Fairlawn, Ohio, worked with Summit County Medical Society, LabCorp and PrePaidLab to set up a service that lets patients order lab tests through the medical society’s website. A lipid panel that would cost as much as $148 in Dr. Lefton’s region can be ordered for $18 on the site.

Physicians hope the service will decrease the number of uninsured and underinsured patients who forgo lab tests because of the cost.
