“You look at what they’re doing in California, how they’re treating people. They don’t treat their people as well as they treat illegal immigrants,” President Trump said, according to the report. “It’s very unfair to our citizens and we’re going to stop it, but we may need an election to stop it.”
President Trump’s comments come after Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom approved a budget that allows undocumented immigrants under age 26 to sign up for Medicaid. California is the first state to extend healthcare coverage to undocumented immigrants, according to the report. It will cost California $98 million in 2020.
