Time to 'give up' on ACA repeal and replace, says Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley

In a May 31 meeting in Orange City, Iowa, Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, indicated he believes ACA repeal efforts are dead, according to a report from the Des Moines Register.

"We've got to give up on repeal and replace," he said, according to the report. This is a "mathematical reality," Nicole Tieman, Mr. Grassley's press secretary, told the Des Moines Register. ACA repeal and replace doesn't have enough support in Congress, she said, though there is still a need for sustainable healthcare legislation.

The discussion around ACA repeal and replace quieted down in 2018 after several failed attempts in 2017. Mr. Grassley supported these efforts despite their shortcomings. "I could maybe give you 10 reasons why this bill shouldn't be considered," he said in September about a repeal bill, according to the report. "But Republicans campaigned on this so often that you have a responsibility to carry out what you said in the campaign."
