Maria Zampini, who most recently served as COO of University Medical Center of El Paso, has been appointed CEO of the hospital, according to an April 17 news release shared with Becker’s.

Ms. Zampini has served as COO since 2013 and has been a leader at the hospital for more than 30 years, according to the release.

The appointment is part of an organizational restructuring that aligns UMC with the El Paso County Hospital District’s broader leadership model, in which system entities have their own CEOs.

“Maria is a highly effective healthcare leader. Her education, experience, commitment to our mission, strategic insight, and operational knowledge makes her well positioned to lead UMC into its next phase of growth,” R. Jacob Cintron, president and CEO of the El Paso County Hospital District, said in the release. “As the hospital district continues to grow in scale, complexity, and impact, it is important for our leadership structure to evolve and support the hospital district’s future.”

Ms. Zampini will report to Mr. Cintron, who will remain in his role.

The district’s system includes University Medical Center of El Paso, an acute care teaching hospital, as well as primary care centers, El Paso Children’s Hospital, El Paso Health and affiliated foundations, according to the system’s website.

At the Becker's 11th Annual IT + Revenue Cycle Conference: The Future of AI & Digital Health, taking place September 14–17 in Chicago, healthcare executives and digital leaders from across the country will come together to explore how AI, interoperability, cybersecurity, and revenue cycle innovation are transforming care delivery, strengthening financial performance, and driving the next era of digital health.
