Upon news of the president’s exit last week, Steward spokesperson Chris Murphy told the Boston Globe that Mr. Walczak had resigned, according to the report.
This week, Mr. Walczak responded to that account, simply stating, “I did not resign from the Carney Hospital.” He did not elaborate.
Mr. Murphy provided another comment this week, saying, “The decision for Bill to leave Carney was a mutual one,” according to the report.
Mr. Walczak was recruited early last year to lead the 186-bed Carney Hospital. Steward has named Margy Hanson, RN, to temporarily head Carney while it searches for a permanent leader. Ms. Hanson formerly led Steward’s Norwood (Mass.) Hospital.
