Spring Branch Medical Center in Texas to Close May 1

Spring Branch Medical Center in Houston will close May 1, according to a Houston Examiner report.

The hospital closed two years ago under Houston-based HCA Gulf Coast ownership. A private equity firm then bought and reopened the hospital in 2011, but financial troubles have forced the hospital to close again.

Spring Branch Medical Center has laid off 87 employees, suspended surgery units and begun phasing out its inpatient services and transferring existing patients to other facilities.
