Ryan raises $22M for House GOP amid healthcare reform efforts: 4 things to know

House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., has made a major fundraising push so far in 2017 as his party pushes to repeal and replace the ACA, reports Politico.

Here are four things to know.

1. Mr. Ryan has raised more for House Republicans so far this year than during the same period of 2016. In the first five months of this year, he raised $22 million, compared to $16.5 million in that period last year, according to the report.

2. Mr. Ryan's fundraising efforts come ahead of the 2018 election cycle, and as Republican lawmakers try to pass healthcare reform. The House in May passed its ACA repeal and replacement plan — the American Health Care Act. The Senate is now working on a healthcare reform bill.

3. Mr. Ryan has attended nearly 50 events in 13 states since the House passed the AHCA, raising support for fellow Republicans before the 2018 midterm elections, reports Politico. The publication also reports Mr. Ryan last month transferred $2 million to the National Republican Congressional Committee.

4. As far as the near future, Mr. Ryan plans to appear at an NRCC dinner this week in Washington, D.C., with Vice President Mike Pence, and headline fundraising receptions for multiple Congressional Republicans, according to the report.
