As part of the agreement, Lifespan will provide an undisclosed sum of money to fund teaching and research at Brown, and Rhode Island Hospital will be designated the principal teaching hospital of the medical school. Brown is currently not associated with a specific academic medical center.
The groups hope the affiliation will allow the hospital and school to attract physician leaders who will then attract other top physicians to the programs, according to the report.
