Republican moderates out of the loop on latest healthcare plan

Nothing but "ominous silence" has come from moderate House Republicans on the latest updates to the ACA repeal plan, according to Politico.

However, this may largely be because they have been left out of the planning process during the April congressional recess. Spokespeople for moderates who opposed the last ACA repeal plan told Politico those lawmakers have yet to see the legislative text for plans that have been drawn up in the interim.

"I'm sure Politico will have any copy of the legislative text before members do," an aide to Rep. Frank LoBiondo, R-N.J., told Politico.

The latest proposals would allow states to opt out of providing a number of consumer protections created under the ACA if they set up high risk pools. Under this plan, states could allow payers to charge older and sicker enrollees more for coverage and would not require them to cover essential health benefits, according to the report. However, the proposal still prohibits payers from denying coverage based on preexisting conditions.

The House is reconvening Tuesday, but rather than healthcare, its focus over the next week is expected to center on passing a budget before Friday to stave off a partial government shutdown, according to the report.
