Pope Francis condemns healthcare inequality in developed nations

Pope Francis brought attention to healthcare access disparities in developed nations during a Thursday speech to European members of the World Medical Association in Vatican City, according to Reuters.

Though Pope Francis did not identify any countries by name, healthcare inequality in the U.S. compared to other developed nations has been highly publicized.

"Increasingly sophisticated and costly treatments are available to ever more limited and privileged segments of the population," Pope Francis said, according to Reuters. "This raises questions about the sustainability of healthcare delivery and about what might be called a systemic tendency toward growing inequality in healthcare."
