Ms. Richards’ departure comes as the Trump administration works to revoke taxpayer funding for the women’s health organization and after fighting numerous battles with anti-abortion activists.
While the organization has yet to confirm her departure — saying only that she plans to discuss her next steps at a board meeting scheduled next week — people familiar with her decision spoke about her plans.
Prior to her role at Planned Parenthood, Ms. Richards served as deputy chief of staff to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and founded America Votes, a coalition of groups that worked on voter registration, education and participation.
