Unionized nurses from 14 Minnesota-area hospitals have approved a contract that will preserve their pension, health benefits and salaries, ending a three-month battle with area hospitals and avoiding a strike, according to a report by the Star Tribune.

As hospital reimbursements decline, hospitals and health systems will have to learn how to "manage to their lowest payor," that is, keeping costs at the level of the lowest reimbursement, says Nick Sears, MD, CMO of MedAssets.
