Potential strikes at Minnesota hospitals have been averted, as members of Service Employees International Union Healthcare Minnesota and hospitals reached a tentative agreement on contract terms yesterday, according to a Pioneer Press report.

Louisiana State University Health, based in Baton Rouge, may have to eliminate certain surgical programs, lay off employees, reduce beds and curb emergency department services at seven hospitals due to proposed state budget cuts, according to an Advocate report.

Approximately 3,500 members of the Service Employees International Union Healthcare Minnesota voted to authorize a two- to five-day strike at eight hospitals in the Twin Cities metro area, according to a Star Tribune report.

Orange, Calif.-based St. Joseph Health System is making a slight adjustment to its name, dropping "System" to become St. Joseph Health, according to a North Bay Business Journal report.
