Mr. Smith began working at Onslow Memorial in 2000, after spending time as CFO at Welborn Memorial Baptist hospital in Evansville, Ind., Bon Secours Mary Immaculate Hospital in Newport News, Va., and Scotland Memorial Hospital in Laurinburg, N.C.
As CFO of Onslow Memorial, Mr. Smith oversaw several expansions and additions, including a new emergency department.
Mr. Smith died peacefully in his home.
“The world is a better place — and we are better people — because Roy Smith touched our lives. He has made such an impact,” said Penney Burlingame Deal, CEO of the hospital, according to a press release obtained by The Daily News.
