OHSU anesthesiology chair forced to resign, allowed to retain professorship

The chair of Portland-based Oregon Health & Science University's Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine was forced to resign from his position last week, but he will remain a professor, according to The Oregonian.

Jeffrey Kirsch, MD, who joined OHSU in 2002, was asked to step down from his position immediately by Sharon Anderson, MD, executive vice president of OHSU and dean of OHSU School of Medicine, and John Hunter, MD, executive vice president of OHSU and CEO of OHSU Health System.

An OHSU spokesperson declined to say why Dr. Kirsch was forced to resign. She told The Oregonian personnel records are confidential.

Dr. Hunter will serve as the head of the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine until an interim chair is named, according to the report.
