Ohio Hospitals began paying the assessments this year. For 2010, they are assessed a fee equal to 1.27 percent of total facility costs, and this will increase to 1.37 percent in 2011.
The Ohio Hospital Association has lobbied CMS since the end of last year for the additional payment, which will be distributed through “upper payment limit” reimbursements included in the state’s 2010-2011 budget, according to the report.
Ohio hospitals also received a 5 percent increase in Medicaid reimbursement rates as a result of the assessments.
