At the top of the list is the head of New York-Presbyterian Hospital Herbert Pardes, MD, who took in a $1.9 million bonus in addition to a $1.7 million salary and nearly $650,000 in “other” compensation in 2010, according to the report.
Meanwhile, Kenneth Davis, MD, president and CEO of Mount Sinai Hospital, received a $1.2 million bonus; Michael Dowling, CEO of the North Shore-LIJ Health System, received $1 million in bonus pay; and Louis Shapiro, president of the Hospital for Special Surgery, received a $1.5 million bonus.
A spokesman for the Greater New York Hospital Association defended the non-profit CEO compensation, which “reflects their myriad responsibilities, the complexity of running a medical center, and the national market for their talents,” according to the report.
Non-profit CEO compensation is expected to be one of the core issues to be examined by a task force formed by New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
