Mr. Edwards was once considered a possible successor to Nike CEO Mark Parker, and the company did not offer a reason for his resignation. However, the memo clarified that “there have been no direct allegations of misconduct against [Mr. Edwards].”
“Over the past few weeks, we’ve become aware of reports of behavior occurring within our organization that do not reflect our core values of inclusivity, respect and empowerment at a time when we are accelerating our transition to the next stage of growth and advancing our culture,” Mr. Parker wrote in the memo, according to The New York Times. “This disturbs and saddens me.”
The company has added an alert line and email inbox for employees to safely make complaints about workplace behavior. The memo also outlined a plan to try and further diversify its management.
