SMRMC CEO and Administrator Norman M. Price confirmed the layoffs to the Enterprise-Journal. He said the hospital hired a consulting firm, which recommended the institution cut roughly 90 employees to stay afloat.

Mr. Price told the Enterprise-Journal cuts to federal funding, increasing uninsured populations and the hospital’s $30 million price tag to make its EHR meet federal requirements have all taken a toll on the hospital’s budget.

However, Mr. Price confirmed no physicians or nurses will be affected by the job cuts, according to the Mississippi Business Journal.

Editor’s note: Becker’s Hospital Review reached out to Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center for comment and will update the report as more information becomes available.
