Michigan hospital to build pavilion in honor of retiring CEO

Hillsdale (Mich.) Hospital will build a pavilion in honor of CEO Duke Anderson, who retires June 1, the hospital announced.

The Anderson Pavilion will be built across the street from the hospital employee parking lot on E. Lynwood Boulevard and Walnut Street. It will be used for staff meetings, special events and picnics.

"Our president and CEO, Duke Anderson, will be retiring after serving this institution for 26 years — 13 years in his current position, and 13 years prior to that as a member of the board of directors, including several years as board chairman," Greg Bailey, chairman of the Hillsdale Hospital board of directors, said. "A record of commitment and service of this magnitude should not be overlooked. But this presented a conundrum. How does one beat the drum for a man of such humble nature who has never been one to beat his own drum?"

The hospital said it saw the pavilion as an appropriate tribute. The Hillsdale Hospital Auxiliary is fully funding the project with a $60,000 donation, and it also is offering custom engravable bricks as part of the project, the hospital said.

The hospital expects construction on the pavilion to begin in mid-March.
