Memorial Health System in Indiana Links Job Cuts to Healthcare Reform

Officials from Memorial Health System in South Bend, Ind., are attributing job eliminations and budget cuts to healthcare reform, according to a South Bend Tribune report.

The system has cut less than 50 positions in recent months, according to a Memorial official. The system employs 3,900 full- and part-time workers.  

Memorial officials said payment reductions from changes in Medicare and Medicaid will make it increasingly difficult to balance cost and while offering a wide range of health services. The system is also seeing an increasing number of patients who are uninsured or underinsured.
