MD Anderson executive is Trump’s top candidate to lead FDA

MD Anderson Cancer Center’s chief medical executive Stephen Hahn, MD, met with President Donald Trump Sept. 4 to discuss leading the FDA, The Washington Post reports.

Dr. Hahn is a radiation oncologist and researcher at the Houston-based cancer center. He spent two decades at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, where he was chairman of the department of radiation oncology. He joined MD Anderson in 2017 as COO. 

Dr. Hahn is the “chief rival” to acting FDA commissioner Ned Sharpless, MD, according to The Washington Post. Alexa Boer Kimball, MD, president and CEO of the Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, is also in the running.
