McDuffie Regional Medical Center in Thomson, Ga., has laid off 21 employees, just under 10 percent of its workforce, according to a WJBF report.

The layoffs are a first in the hospital's history and come after a loss of more than $1 million over the last two years, according to the report. The cuts are expected to save the struggling hospital $900,000.
