Plans are underway to move the Mayo Clinic Executive Health Program within the health system’s downtown campus in Rochester, Minn., a spokesperson confirmed to Becker’s.
The plans, filed March 18, call for moving the program from the fifth floor of the Mayo Building to the 19th floor of the Gonda Building, the Post-Bulletin reported. Early cost estimates for the project total $18 million, according to a building permit filing cited by the newspaper.
The Mayo Clinic Executive Health Program is designed to help executives, business owners and entrepreneurs access Mayo preventive care, according to its website. The program is available at Mayo campuses in Rochester; Phoenix; and Jacksonville, Fla., as well as at Mayo Clinic Healthcare’s London clinic in the U.K.
“Our mission is to provide individualized, comprehensive care to meet the unique needs of working executives in the demanding stages of their careers,” the program website states. “We focus on preventive health and wellness with timely, coordinated access to multidisciplinary care, including advanced diagnostics, state-of-the-art prevention strategies and therapeutics when needed.”
The program started in 1970 and offers participants a customized, comprehensive, one-, two- or three-day itinerary of exams and tests based on their needs.
It is offered as an executive benefit by more than 600 companies, according to the Post-Bulletin.
“The project will focus on the need to continue to maintain a competitive advantage to ensure the Category-of-One experience for patients. The project is aligned with the BOLD.FORWARD.2030 vision,” the building permit said, according to the newspaper. “Understanding that these services for a larger population of [Executive and Development] patients cannot effectively be offered in the current space on Mayo Building, 5th Floor.”
The permit also noted the program’s “consistent growth, serving 12,483 unique patients with 43,369 total visits in 2022. Notably, approximately 25% of our patients are development patients, including 222 unique ultra-high net worth patients in 2022.”
In a statement shared with Becker’s, Mayo pointed to this project, as well as other practice relocations. The health system did not address questions from the Post-Bulletin related to timeline, the number of affected workers, or plans for what will be open space in the Mayo Building.
“Mayo Clinic is committed to providing compassionate, world-class care to all patients who come through our doors,” the statement said. “Mayo Clinic continuously optimizes its campuses to best support its multidisciplinary, integrated care model for patients across all specialties and offerings. This project, along with many others taking place at Mayo Clinic’s campuses, reflects Mayo Clinic’s ongoing commitment to enhance patient and staff experiences.”
Mayo Clinic employs approximately 83,000 staff total.
