LSU health system has created a new position to replace Dr. Cerise and his former position. Frank Opelka, MD, FACS, will take over in the newly-created position of executive vice president for health care and medical education redesign.

The LSU health system is facing a $300 million cut to funding it receives to treat the poor and uninsured and has been undergoing changes due to that cut, according to the report.
