The possible name change is part of a drive to emphasize the system’s non-hospital services. For most of its history, the organization was known for its only hospital, Lee Memorial Hospital, located near downtown Fort Myers. The system is hoping to broaden the association between the brand and wellness in general.
“Like the national healthcare environment, we are transforming our approach from providing episodic healthcare to helping people live a healthier life,” a Lee Memorial spokeswoman said in a written statement. “To reflect these changes, we are proposing that the board of directors adopt a new brand name and logo for our health system that retains our history and positions us for the future.”
Lee Memorial Health System administrators will propose the plan to the health system’s elected board of directors May 12, according to the report.
If board members approve the rebranding plan, the hospital system would keep its legal name of Lee Memorial Health System but would use “Lee Health” on all logos and advertising.
The organization has been discussing a possible name change for a year.
