Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center CFO dies in car crash

Knoxville, Tenn.-based Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center CFO Ronnie S. Beeler died in a car crash on Jan. 30, 2017, according to a WBIR report. Mr. Beeler was 56 years old.

According to the Knoxville Police Department, a man named Samuel Wiley Smith Jr. in a Toyota Camry crossed the median on a section of Interstate 640, crashing head-on into Mr. Beeler's car. Mr. Beeler's wife was also in the car. All three died.

It is unclear why Mr. Smith, aged 70 years, crossed the median into oncoming traffic.

Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center, part of Knoxville-based Covenant Health, named Mr. Beeler CFO in 2011, according to his LinkedIn page. Prior to that, he was the CFO at Cincinnati-based Mercy Health's St. Mary's Medical Center.

"[Mr. Beeler] was an invaluable member of our hospital's management team and an integral part of our Covenant Health family. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims of this accident," Chief Administrative Officer Keith Altshuler wrote in a statement to WBIR.
