Former Pennsylvania hospital CEO of 22 years remembered as ‘loving presence’

Sister Margaret Ann Hardner, who spent 22 years as CEO of what is now AHN St. Vincent Hospital in Erie, Pa., died Oct. 3 at age 95, the Erie Times-News reported Oct. 6.

Ms. Hardner, a member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Northwestern Pennsylvania, joined the hospital after a teaching career and spent 34 years there in total, according to her biography. The hospital was previously known as St. Vincent Hospital and later St. Vincent Health Center.

The hospital later named the Hardner Building, a four-story medical office facility on its campus, in her honor, a spokesperson said in a statement shared with Becker’s.

Chris Clark, DO, who has served as hospital president since 2017, said in the statement that Ms. Hardner’s leadership contributed to the hospital’s significant growth and advancements in care.

“I cherish the times spent with her sharing stories and providing updates on our continued progress and investments,” Dr. Clark said. “We will miss her loving presence at the hospital and within the community, but her spirit will continue through our devoted caregivers.”

AHN St. Vincent Hospital is part of Pittsburgh-based Allegheny Health Network.
