Former Intel CEO Andy Grove dies at 79

Andy Grove, former CEO of Santa Clara, Calif.-based Intel, died March 22, according to Wired.

Mr. Grove was 79.

Throughout his life, Mr. Grove was both an author and a leader, working with and influencing the lives of various other tech individuals such as Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg and Steve Jobs.

Mr. Grove, a survivor of the Holocaust and the Hungarian Revolution, came to the U.S. and put himself through college, eventually earning a PhD from the University of California, Berkeley. He began working at Intel in 1968.

After being diagnosed with prostate cancer in 1998, Mr. Grove left Intel. Upon recovery, he worked philanthropically in the fields of healthcare, manufacturing and sustainable energy, and continued to do so despite a Parkinson’s diagnosis.
