New policies by the state’s Department of Health could affect reviews of “determination of need” applications for construction, new equipment or ownership changes of healthcare facilities.
The department’s director said the review process had been weakened in the late 1980s and 1990s, allowing providers to expand almost unchecked. She pointed to a proliferation of new MRIs and linear acceleration therapies.
