Mount Sinai’s offer comes only two weeks after the announcement of a potential merger between NYU and Continuum. NYU officials suggested, in a prepared statement, that Continuum had “betrayed” the negotiations of the last eight months and as a result, the system decided to suspend all further talks, according to the report. If Continuum were to approach NYU once again in the future, NYU would “make a determination at that time whether to re-engage with them,” said the statement.
Whether Continuum chooses NYU Langone or Mount Sinai as a partner, the resulting health system would be one of the largest healthcare systems in the city.
