“Community hospitals in rural areas are under significant financial pressure from increasing costs, reduced reimbursement, and regulatory requirements. Sierra Nevada is feeling these pressures, and we are adjusting accordingly,” hospital CEO and President Brian Evans, MD, emailed the newspaper.

The hospital told Becker’s Hospital Review that the job cuts affected about 1 percent of the hospital’s workforce of more than 800. It did not say which or how many jobs were cut but said those cuts will not affect patient care.

“When staffing adjustments are necessary, we work closely with affected employees to identify other opportunities in our system for which they may be qualified. We recognize that reducing even a single position affects many inside and outside of our organization, and this is not a decision we take lightly,” a hospital spokesperson told Becker’s.
