DeKalb Medical lays off about 60 employees, CEO resigns

Decatur, Ga.-based DeKalb Medical Center has laid off nearly 60 employees and eliminated 80 vacant positions, a hospital spokesperson told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The news comes after John Shelton declared his intent to resign from his position as CEO of the hospital, according to the report. Cheryl Iverson, vice president of marketing communications and corporate health at DeKalb Medical Center, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that Mr. Shelton's resignation was unrelated to the job cuts. She declined to disclose Mr. Shelton's specific reasons for leaving to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. However, Ms. Iverson said the changes in staff and executive leadership were motivated by financial reasons, according to the article.

Bob Wilson, DeKalb Medical Center board vice chairman, will serve as the hospital's new CEO, effectively immediately.
