The program would be the first medical school clinical program in the city. The move is part of a larger plan by the School of Medicine to increase enrollment by 30 percent per year; 32 students from each class would spend their last two years in Springfield training. The expansion is intended to help combat the state’s growing shortage of healthcare providers; 90 percent of counties in Missouri have a shortage of healthcare professionals, according to the report.
