CMS will no longer enforce a policy that was set to take place last week, requiring a physician or other practitioner’s signature on requisitions for clinical laboratory tests in 2011, according to an AHA News report.

The policy was set to take effect April 1 after being delayed in December. “After further input from the laboratory community, CMS has decided to focus its resources for the remainder of 2011 on changing the regulation that requires signatures on laboratory requisitions because of concerns that physicians, non-physician practitioners and clinical diagnostic laboratories are having difficulty complying with this policy,” the agency said, according to the report.
