Christus Sutton Children’s Medical Center, part of Schumpert, was also closed in the process, according to a KSLA report. Christus executives closed Schumpert because the system is expanding its Highland Medical Center in Shreveport. All care that was provided at Schumpert will gradually be moved to Highland.
The closure of Schumpert will result in roughly 200 to 225 layoffs, according to the reports. Christus has hired a consulting firm to help “find alternative uses” for the Schumpert facilities, according to the KSLA report.
