Here are four things to know.
1. Neither system currently operates any hospitals in Illinois.
2. Though each system will maintain their current headquarters, the newly merged entity will be housed in Chicago.
3. “This decision was made because Chicago is centrally located, has convenient access to all parts of the country where our ministries are located and offers good infrastructure to support a national organization,” a Dignity spokesperson said, according to the Chicago Tribune.
4. Neither organization has said when the new Chicago headquarters will open.
