Care New England CEO: Coronavirus Facebook posts about hospital ‘dangerous,’ incorrect

Posts on Facebook and other social media platforms that speculate whether a Care New England hospital is taking care of Rhode Island’s first presumptive case of the novel coronavirus are “not accurate and in fact, dangerous,” the system’s CEO told news station WPRI.

Jim Fanale, MD, president and CEO of Providence, R.I.-based Care New England, made the comments after some social media accounts alleged the system’s Kent Hospital in Warwick, R.I., has handled a COVID-19 case.

“While we are unable to comment on specific patient care, if and when a patient were to present at Kent Hospital with COVID-19 symptoms, our team would appropriately isolate the patient and work with public health officials on testing,” Dr. Fanale said.

Dr. Fanale didn’t expand on what the posts said, but warned state residents against believing what they see about COVID-19 on social media.
