California to Receive $10B in Federal Funding to Expand Medicaid

CMS has approved a waiver that will provide $10 billion in federal funding over five years to help the state immediately expand Medicaid coverage for low-income childless adults, according to a report by AHA News Now.

The state plans to use its current county-based coverage initiative to enroll the newly eligible so that they can more easily transition to the federally funded program in 2014.

The waiver also provides funding for improving safety-net hospitals, care coordination, outcomes and cost effectiveness, according to the report.
