The OMB plan would move the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area grant to the Department of Justice and the Drug-Free Communities program to HHS, effectively gutting the ONDCP.
“Not only would such action signal to the American public that the administration is not serious about addressing the drug epidemic that our nation currently faces, but it could also have a devastating effect on programs that have been proven effective,” the senators wrote, according to The Hill.
If OMB goes through with the plan, funding would remain intact for the programs though the letter’s authors worry the transfer of program control could interrupt services.
