Since Forbes and the Council of Accountable Physician Practices (CAPP) are shining light on at topic we know so well, we thought we’d share some of our tried-and-true methods for recognizing strong physician leaders and grooming physicians to be effectual leaders. The hallmark of any medical group or practice that is financially, clinically, and operationally strong comes down to one factor: a capable leader. Many groups place at the helm a director who excels clinically. Having an excellent physician or APP at the top of your team pyramid is certainly important, but clinical skill alone does not a leader make. For a staff to operate well as a team, the director must be able to lead, manage, and empower each member of the staff to be a strong communicator, a team player, and a proponent of a customer service-based approach to care.
