Here are four things to know:
1. Amazon recently crowned two locations as the next home of Amazon’s second headquarters: Crystal City, Va., and New York City.
2. As the e-commerce giant worked to finalize its second headquarters, it wanted to maintain secrecy. As soon as the 20 finalist cities were selected, it assigned each location a code name.
3. New York City’s winning proposal was named Project Clancy, Crystal City’s proposal was named Project Cooper, Maryland’s bid was named Project Duke and Indianapolis’ proposal was named Hazel.
“We were like, whose daughter is this, whose grandmother?” Maureen Kraus, chief economic development officer at the Indy Chamber, which spearheaded the Indianapolis region’s bid, told the WSJ.
4. It turns out, the finalist cities were named after dogs of Amazon employees. It makes sense, as Amazon employees are allowed to bring their dogs to work.
