Although other hospital officials have not yet endorsed the governor’s proposal, it includes several enticing benefits, including $5 million each to Hartford and St Francis hospitals for various initiatives. Other initiatives include renovated patient rooms at Bristol (Conn.) Hospital, a Connecticut Institute for Primary Care at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford and more.
A major concern expressed by area hospitals is that privately insured patients would opt to go to the newly renovated John Dempsey Hospital. However, Gov. Malloy’s administration said the renovations would only add 10 more beds and a projected shortage of beds by 2020 would ensure fair market share for all area hospitals, according to the news report.
