8 Hospital Groups That Have Contributed Most in the 2012 Election Cycle

In 2008, the hospital and nursing home industry dumped more than $23 million to federal candidates and parties, and as the 2012 election cycle ramps up, the hospital lobbying and political contributions are following suit.

Here are the eight hospital groups that have contributed the most to the 2012 election cycle so far, according to data from OpenSecrets.org and the Center for Responsive Politics. (Note: In some instances, an organization's political action committee, subsidiary or affiliate contributed money instead of the actual organization. The following totals include all of those avenues.)

•    American Hospital Association: $873,630
•    Federation of American Hospitals: $310,975
•    Hospital Corporation of America: $297,351
•    Kaiser Permanente: $285,948
•    Mayo Clinic: $163,008
•    Vanguard Health Systems: $160,140
•    Steward Health Care System: $155,953
•    Cancer Treatment Centers of America: $123,485
