In June, officials had estimated approximately, 1,500 employees would lose their jobs, according to a Pittsburgh Post-Gazette report. The resignation of 220 employees, along with jobs opening elsewhere in the system, reduced that original estimate.
The consolidation will result in services moving from West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.
At this time, the System does not anticipate any additional jobs will be impacted as a result of its plans for West Penn Hospital, according to the release.
