While five workers lost their jobs, other employees affected in Florence and Marion, S.C., were able to move into other positions in the organization.

The system did not specify areas affected by the transition. However, a statement to WPDE provided some insight into its decision:

“The two campuses of Carolinas Hospital System continually look for ways we can work more closely together to provide high quality care for our region and the patients who are counting on us,” the statement reads. “We are focused on the services we do best, increasing our efficiency and minimizing our ongoing costs of operation in order to recruit more primary care and specialist physicians to our region.”

System officials said part of these efforts will include continuing to invest in the region. They cited plans for a freestanding emergency department in West Florence, as well as the recent renovation of The Women’s Center.

The system will have one executive team with one CEO and one CFO overseeing both campuses. Vance Reynolds was named CEO, and Spencer Twigg, the system’s assistant CEO, was promoted to the administrator at Carolinas Hospital System–Marion.
