4 Connecticut Hospital Projects Creating Jobs

Many hospitals and health systems throughout Connecticut are undergoing construction that will create scores of new jobs, according to a Hartford Business Journal report.

1. Hartford (Conn.) Hospital plans to spend $61 million to expand the emergency department and renovate buildings and $40 million to build a parking garage. These projects are expected to create 280 jobs.

2. Danbury (Conn.) Hospital is planning a $150 million expansion project, including building a new patient tower, which will create an estimated 500 jobs and generate $250 million for the local economy over the next few years.

3. The $864 million Bioscience Connecticut initiative will build a new patient care tower at the University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmington and renovate its John Dempsey Hospital. These projects are expected to create 3,000 construction jobs annually from 2012-2018.

4. Windham Hospital in Willimantic, Conn., has been approved for $8.3 million in bonding to build a new medical center that will create approximately 125 construction jobs.
