The findings of the report are based on a survey of physical therapists, occupational therapists and speech-language pathologists that was conducted online from September to November 2012. The 590 respondents were self-selected.
The trends that will influence workload for rehabilitation therapists, according to the survey, are:
• Duties — 59 percent reported their duties as increasing, 37 percent reported it as remaining stagnant
• Overtime hours — 59 percent reported it as remaining stagnant, 23 percent reported it as increasing
• Patient load — 43 percent reported it as increasing, 40 percent reported it as remaining stagnant
According to the survey, the average patient load among the three rehabilitation disciplines is ten patients.
