The layoffs were implemented at MedWest-Haywood in Clyde, MedWest-Swain in Bryson City, and MedWest-Harris in Sylva. A combined 26 people were affected at Swain and Harris, while 56 people were affected at Haywood, according to the report.
Hospital officials attributed the layoffs to decreased patient volume and growing expenses. The system began analyzing its staffing levels last year, according to the report, and has already eliminated some positions.
