Aurora agreed to build the hospital when it acquired multi-specialty group practice Advanced Healthcare in 2008. The facility will significantly expand Aurora’s presence in the northern Milwaukee suburbs, according to the report.
The hospital is expected to drive competition to other suburban hospitals including Columbia St. Mary’s in Mequon, Wis., which recently completed a $72 million expansion, as well as Orthopaedic Hospital of Wisconsin, a joint venture between Columbia St. Mary’s and local surgeons. Aurora Advanced Healthcare currently includes 32 orthopedic surgeons who are expected to practice at Aurora’s new facility, possibly drawing volume away from the orthopedic facility.
